Holiday Ham in the Crockpot

The Crockpot is always a life saver especially during the Holidays! I love a good baked Holiday Ham but if you need to save on oven space or don’t have time to keep an eye on it then the Crockpot is a great alternative. This Holiday Ham comes out delicious and juicy every single time and only takes 5 minutes to prep. The Crockpot makes this recipe practically fool proof and will impress your entire family.

Easy Crockpot Ham

Ham is one of the simplest Holiday dishes to make but I made it even easier by using the crockpot. This recipe uses all the classic ingredients you want during the Holidays. It is cooked in pineapple juice, real maple syrup, brown sugar, and a little bit of ground cloves. What some people don’t realize is that the Ham you buy from the store is already precooked. So you really just need to reheat it. Trust me you can not mess this up!

Ingredients

Let’s talk about the star ingredient the Ham! After all there are so many to choose from. If your Ham comes with a Glaze feel free to use it too. Here we make our own just in case yours doesn’t come with one.

  • Ham – I love a spiral Ham because it makes carving so easy but you can use any kind. It can be skank, plain, smoked, cured or uncured, bone in or boneless. Whatever Ham that is the right size for your Crockpot.
  • Maple Syrup– the real deal not the artificial kind.
  • Brow Sugar– You can use dark or light we do not discriminate.
  • Ground Cloves– I suppose this could be optional but my family always used cloves on our Holiday ham so it’s essential for me.
  • Pineapple Juice– I usually buy one or two cans of pineapple slices and use the juice from the can.
  • Dijon Mustard– I know it sounds scary but this is a main ingredient for your delicious glaze. Trust me!
  • Toppings – Maraschino Cherries because that red color just pops! Use toothpicks to secure cherries and pineapple slices to the top of the Ham.

What if my Ham doesn’t fit in my Crockpot?

I will say the only challenging thing about making your Ham in the Crockpot is finding one small enough to fit in your slow cooker. Your Ham might need to be on the smaller side. My Crockpot is a 7 quart so a 5 pound ham fit perfectly. This size will feed about 6-8 people or about 1/2 pound per person. Make sure you know the size of your Crockpot before heading to the store.

If you already bought your Ham and find it’s too large for your crockpot there are two things you can do. You can carve some of it off until it is the right size or you can cover with aluminum foil and put the lid on top of that. When there is a will there is a way!

I used fewer ingredients here for the glaze. If you do not have maple syrup and mustard it’s still good. I also add the glaze that comes with the ham on top when I serve.

How to make Spiral Ham in the Oven

Most Spiral Hams come with a glaze so you can just use that! I had a large ham so I made extra glaze from scratch too.

Ingredients

  • 8-10 pound Ham any kind (I love Spiral because it’s pre sliced)
  • 1/4 Cup Pineapple Juice
  • 2/3 Cup of Brown Sugar
  • 1 Tablespoon Dijon Mustard (trust me)
  • 1/4 Teaspoon Ground Cloves
  • 1-2 Cans of Pineapple Slices
  • Maraschino cherries (optional)
  • Toothpicks

Directions

  • 1. Preheat oven to 325
  • 2. Add pineapple juice, sugar, mustard, and ground cloves to a sauce pan. Whisk and bring to a boil. Then turn heat off.
  • 3. Unwrap and place the ham in a large pan.
  • 4. Add pineapple slices and cherries around the ham and secure with toothpicks.
  • 5. Pour glaze over the ham and cover with foil. Heat in the oven for about 2 hours. (15 minutes per pound)
  • 6. Baste every 30 minutes.
  • 7. Remove from oven and let it rest for 10 minutes before basting again and carving.
